NFL Scouts Visit Richmond for Pro Day
Who said that you have to play “big time” college football in order to get to the NFL?
The University of Richmond will host NFL scouts this afternoon for a Pro Day where top UR seniors get to show their stuff in a series of combine style drills. The opportunity is available only for University of Richmond players and is closed to the public.
This is an annual event for the Spiders and is typically well attended by NFL scouts and position coaches. In the past few years, former Richmond players like Tim Hightower (RB – Arizona Cardinals) and Lawrence Sidbury (DL – Atlanta Falcons) have landed NFL gigs from their work at the Richmond Pro Day.
This year, defensive back David Horton, offensive lineman Matt McCracken, defensive lineman Parker Miles, wide receiver Jordan Mitchell, defensive lineman Pierre Turner, quarterback Eric Ward and defensive back Seth Williams are expected to work out.
It’s been said before, but it needs to be made clear for today’s high school athletes aspiring to play in the NFL. Not everyone’s going to go to a BCS school. You can be discovered by the NFL by playing at a smaller school. The NFL spends lots of money to find talent. If you’re on the field and you’re playing well, NFL scouts will find you. You have to go to a school where you can get playing time and grow your talent. Additionally, you’ll want to go where you can get a good education.
The vast majority of athletes don’t make it to the NFL. Most that do make it have short careers. Athletic ability will only serve you for a short span of your life. Your college education will serve you for your entire life.
